An Ancient
pAssion
Across the Ancient Greek world,
women spent time dyeing threads,
spinning yarn, weaving cloth and
decorating textiles in their homes,
finding inspiration in nature, culture
and mythology to create patterns
and devise ingenious techniques.
In fact, one early law allowed
widowed and divorced women
to keep half of the weavings they
had created in their marriage, with
some historians tracing the custom
of the wedding dowry in the form
of white goods that is still prevalent
in Greece to that ancient creative
passion for textiles.
